Dinosaur Files

Does the Grand Canyon in the west show evidence of evolution of the mountains?

I think the mountains in any area of this country can show us to with little dought that evolution is a fact. The fact that there are dinosaurs in this part of the world doesn't this prove something? I know christains have told me god mentions dinosaurs in the bible, but did they really exist during the time of the bible? Is there any proof that dinosaurs are as young as 2000 to 6000 years old?

  1. I'm afraid, at this point in our knowledge of the world, believing the Bible is ignoring the facts. Don't be drawn in by modern mythology and legend.
  2. No. Dinosaurs are VERY long gone. Millions! of years gone. The Grand Canyon does show evolution of a mountain type. And, it is getting wider and deeper...very slowly, though. That is evolution right there. Everest is slowly growing upward. If I'm not wrong, I think I've heard that the Grand Canyon is lifting, too. I know parts of Yellowstone Park are. No, dinosaurs did not exist in the time of the Bible, if you believe in creationism.
  3. The Grand Canyon shows evidence of water erosion. There were dinosaurs, not only in the west of present day USA, but almost everywhere in the world, including Antarctica. Dinosaurs had been mentioned in old folk culture, such as dragons in ancient China, because the people were puzzled by the evidence of fossiles - stones in the shape of huge bones. Dinosaurs disappeared around 65 000 000 BP (before present) / BC (before Christ).
  4. Actually, the rocks at the base of the Grand Canyon - the the Vishnu Schist - are evidence of ancient mountain building events in the vicinity of the GC. The Vishnu used to be sedimentary rock (sandstones and siltstones) and metamorphism of it probably occurred as two continents were colliding almost 2 billion years ago. I do not believe that dinosaurs are mentioned in the Bible (despite claims that passages in the book of Job mentioned them - these are probably hippos and crocodiles; VERY fierce and hostile animals)...probably because they did not exist anymore in Bible times. They had gone extinct 65 million years prior.
