Dinosaur Files

Why are the sizes of dinosaurs alaways dramatized in movies?

Most arent to bad, but raptors get it the worse! Something a bit larger than a turkey is made to be like 6-7 feet high, why do they do this? can't they just pick a larger species instead?

  1. Most people who make movies aren't archaeologists so they don't know the actual size of the dinosaurs and they probably figure that no one will notice. It could also be to get the full effect. It is a bit annoying though when it is obvious.
  2. I think its because dinosaurs are supposed to be portraied as these massive giants, but the truth is they werent really that big. but what you have to realize is that you dont have any scientists working on making the movie.
  3. Good question. In reality the Deinonochus is the size that the velociraptor is in the Jurassic Park films. I think that they just switched the names because velociraptor sounds cooler. Also they made the Dilophosaurus too small in the film, unless that is a juvenille in the movie. Small velociraptors would not make for an intriguing dinosaur, look at the compsognathus from The Lost World. They were made the exact same size as they are in real life and nobody will probably remember them from the movie in the long run.
