Dinosaur Files

How do dinosaur bones figure in the Christian belief?

I've always wanted to know why and how do the dinosaur remains (in museums around the world) figure in Christainity? We all know Noah took normal animals - I've seen the films! I am sorry if it's 'Not this again' however I don't know the answer and I thought this was where I find out what you all think..... First answerer - sorry don't understand? And I think this is a more intelligent question than 'Why do we pray?' or 'What colour stockings go with a blue dress?'

  1. The bowl of petunias only thought to itself, "Oh no, not again!" Creationism again? Check out this lovely diorama (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:CreationMuseum15.png ) in the Creation Museum (http://arstechnica.com/articles/culture/ars-takes-a-field-trip-the-creation-museum.ars ) showing Eve sitting in a very sexy frock next to an over sized velociraptor. I also love the photo of a parent boosting his child onto a saddled tricertops (http://media.arstechnica.com/news.media/400/526893292_e95eb57c10.jpg ).
  2. They don't, which is why so many believers claim they were planted there by 'Santa's little helpers".
  3. They claimed that God planted them to confuse us, or that carbon-dating is a pseudoscience.
  4. Its where god messed up a few times and burried his/her/its mistakes.
  5. people take the Bible way too literally; many stories in the Bible are there just to explain God a little bit easier. some stories are true though, the new testament is true
  6. Didn't you know...? Adam and Eve rode dinosaurs to church, and the oldest bones are only 6,000 years old!
  7. cheese and rice, people,.. let the wheat and the tares grow together until the harvest, matthew 13: 24-30,.. i e a e,.. avatar of the unification,..
  8. You mean to tell me we got gipped out of triceratops rides?!
  9. Their are several creatures in which the bible mentions that fit no description of any animal living today, but these names were not the names we use such as the t rex, and the bible describes theses creatures so large they could swallow the sea. ΒΆ Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox. 16 Lo now, his strength [is] in his loins, and his force [is] in the navel of his belly. 17 He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together. 18 His bones [are as] strong pieces of brass; his bones [are] like bars of iron. 19 He [is] the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach [unto him]. 20 Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play. 21 He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens. 22 The shady trees cover him [with] their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about. 23 Behold, he drinketh up a river, [and] hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth. 24 He taketh it with his eyes: [his] nose pierceth through snares. that is only but one description of one of the creatures. Jeffds explanation is correct.
  10. Most Christians interpret Genesis allegorically, and always have. The earliest Christian writings to mention the book of Genesis are from the second century, and already it was interpreted allegorically. Today, most Christians believe in evolution, and adhere to current scientific theories. The only difference is that most Christians believe in theistic evolution, which is the idea that God (as providence, not as supernatural intervention) directs key moments in the evolutionary process (like the transition to man), rather than just leaving everything up to natural selection. I have to add my standard disclaimer. Evangelical Christians (who believe in Creationism and oppose all forms of evolution) make up less than 10% of Christians world-wide, but they make up more than 65% of Christians in the United States. So, as you can imagine, people in the United States, or who regularly interact with people from the United States (like on this forum) are likely to assume that *all* Christians are Creationists. Fortunately, that's not the case. Incidentally, I have never met a Christian, creationist or otherwise, who thinks that dinosaur bones were planted by Satan. But I have heard plenty of non-Christians say that Christians believe that. Most Creationists believe one of two things. Either dinosaurs existed with humans, or they were part of primordial order that disappeared before God started over on the second day of creation in Genesis.
  11. I never head of dinosaurs in the bible having anything to do with Christainity. I know that they roamed the earth but died due to lack of food and cold. Don't really know how that fits in.
  12. ever seen the flintstones lol?
  13. Dinosaurs ARE mentioned in the Bible but the name "Dinosaur" was not invented until 1840 so in the Bible they are called by their ancient names: Dragons, Behemoths and Leviathans.
  14. Dinos - lived MILLIONS of years ago Noah just thousands of years.
  15. Well, if a Christian adheres to the Bible alone for understanding, dinosaurs do not figure in it at all. It is in the realm of the unknown. I'm LDS. I remember our prophet, Brigham Young, stating that we believe in and accept all truth that science has to offer, and we willingly take the best of it. I believe in the Biblical account of Creation, but I believe it is a metaphor of the creation process, designed to explain things to people who did not have scientific knowledge. God does things like that... offering knowledge to people that they can accept and understand, and leaving the more complex matters until they are ready for them.
  16. I am a Christian who is actually majoring in Paleontology. In Genesis, creation took six days in KJV, but a day is not defined. Perhaps a day is not 24 hours in this context, but billions of years. Personally, I believe dinosaurs roamed the Earth over 65 million years ago. And to my understanding, no human being was around at that time.
